Journalism is considered as both art and a profession that keeps a record of events and views and seeks to construe and Knoll them for the benefit of the erudite populace.
Whether journalism is an art or profession has been the subject of debate for ages and the last word is yet to be said.
C.Rajagopalachari, the renowned national leader, philosopher and also a stupendous journalist believed it is an art. While addressing a gathering of journalist he once urged them to look at their profession as an art and not as a trade. Equating journalist with poets and painters, he noted that journalists must never treat themselves as factory workers.
They are creating work of art, he said, adding that when journalists write an article or present a news story, they are creating a work of art.
Irrespective of their hardships, internal pains, and problems, he called upon the journalists to always look upon what they write as a productive and creative form of art.
However, it is safe to wind up that journalism is both an art and a profession. The drift in modern day journalism, at any rate in India, is to highlight its professional facet more than its artistic side.
