Why are healthy fats important?

The human brain is composed of fat.

Omega 3's are necessary for brain development. Vegan sources rich in good fats are flax and  Chia seeds.

Fat is important for digestion and energy conversion. It is a primary source for storing energy in our body. We cannot survive without fats. Fat helps in digestion and transportation of nutrients. Our body utilizes fats to activate hormones and build up the immune system.

The axon in our brain transmits electrical signals to the body. The axon's protective coat is made up of lipids. Our Mitochondria is rich in brown fats. Its function is energy production and respiration. Brown fat burns calorie intense lipids. It helps in releasing energy and creates heat. White fat stores lipid. But it does not burn them. This causes unhealthy belly fat. Fat is necessary for absorption of Vitamins like A, E, D and K.

The air spaces in our lungs are composed of fats. Good fats help the liver to flush out fat accumulation. Fat is high in energy. So, it is important to consume good fat for good health. But eating too much of good fats can also make you gain weight.

Eating greater amount of saturated fat may cause an increase in cholesterol. We should avoid eating deep fried foods, pastries, and sweet biscuits.

Unsaturated fats, reduce the risk of heart attack. Omega 3 fats found in fish oil, nuts and monounsaturated fats found in Olive oil, cashews, almonds are good for us.

Trans fats increase the bad cholesterol in our body and decrease the good cholesterol. We should lower the amount of consuming trans fats.

Butter and margarine are trans fats.

We should consume Unsaturated fats like fish oil, Olive oil, cashews and almonds. We should cut down Saturated and Transfats to stay healthy.
