Ambition and motivation are two things that I've always held to be the driving factors of life! Life without motivation is a life that lacks intensity and passion.  At least that's how I have always led my life, especially my professional life.

I'm currently dating someone who is very sweet and a good person at heart, but sadly he's not ambitious. He has no professional ambitions, he is satisfied with the way things are in life, and lacks the motivation to grow and passion to achieve.

I don't know how to handle this relationship. I really like him but what is a life or even a relationship with no ambition? Would you date someone who lacks ambition in life? What should I do?

Personally, I would never date someone who has no Ambition. I guess it's important to have a goal, an ambition in your head so that you work towards achieving that and grow in life. A person who lacks this, in my eyes, is not serious about the direction in which their career is headed and prefers to go with the flow. This is the problem that one needs to change about themselves.

I don't want to be with someone who is living life as it comes to them. It may interests other, but for me, its a total no zone. Such people do not know what they are working for are, they have no expectations of themselves and their career, let alone their life in general. And if you have such a laid-back attitude for your life, then how will you be serious for me. I am the kind of person who gets attracted to a person who has a plan, a person who knows what they want to achieve in life and the level at which they want to grow before they retire. And that is what impresses and attracts me towards them.

By plan, please do not confuse it to be 'plan of action.' They may or may not be spontaneous about when it comes to career; I know they are determined to achieve what they want and will pay any cost to fulfill their dreams. This is important, not now when you are doing phenomenally well for yourself. But years later, when you will be facing a hard time, this will come to your rescue. The fact that you are ambitious will keep you afloat in the water. A person, going with the flow may or may not be able to protect itself from drowning. But ambitious people's instinct to survive is high, and they will switch to other work that promises them what they desire. In short, their survival instint\ct is also high, and they are more steady to fall back upon than the other kinds. Thus, for me, Ambition is important!
