Who do you think created the world? Was it a supernatural power that is referred to by many as God or a giant explosion that scientists have named the Big Bang? Well, perhaps there is no right answer to this question, at least not one that all of us can agree upon. But whether you are spiritual or not, there is one concept relating to the spirituality that you must be aware of and most likely believe in, and that is Karma. What goes around comes around, right?
Karma can simply be explained as the fruit of our deeds. In other terms, you reap what you sow. Karma means that the way you behave with others or the way you treat them determines what is going to happen with you in your life. If you do wrong to people, then others will do wrong to you, and if you behave generously, patiently, selflessly, then those are what people are going to treat you with.
Do you believe in Karma? Do you think that we have to face the consequences of our actions? Let us delve into the concept together and try to understand what it really means.
What Is Karma?
As you may already very well know, the concept or idea of Karma is a spiritual one, which has not much to do with science. Several religions in the world, especially those belonging to the continent of Asia, preach the idea of Karma. These include Buddhism, Jainism, as well as Hinduism which is one of the oldest religions still in practice.
Karma is a Sanskrit word, meaning work, action or deed. Simple and straightforward, the law of Karma explains that not just humans, but all living beings on earth are punished or rewarded for their actions and intentions. Thus, good actions reap the rewards, whereas bad deeds and intentions lure punishment, suffering, and pain. Besides Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism, Islam too echoes the idea of Karma. As per Quran, the Islamic religious text, every good deed is repaid tenfold, while every evil deed is responded with evil. It is also arguable that the law of Karma is evident in Christianity and that Jesus was aware of it. He willingly took over the Karma of the people who acknowledged him as their savior and repented for their sins.
While the modern day adaptation of Karma only relates it to having to pay for your actions in this life, the spiritual meaning of Karma is closely associated with the idea of reincarnation or avatar. Several religions explain Karma as the memory of the soul, meaning that it can even stem from our prior lives. As per Hindu beliefs, our souls have been on earth for millions of lifetimes and perhaps will be here for millions more. Your soul leaves the body when you die and comes back upon rebirth. The religious idea of Karma states that the psychological dispositions, such as likes, dislikes, fears and more as well as the type of body are determined by your Karma or the actions in previous lives. Therefore, no one gets away with anything and has to pay for the sins, whether in this life or another.
Can You Avoid Karma Or Turn It Around?
Different religions have different say when it comes to dealing with Karma. For instance, as per Hinduism, you can wash off your sins with a dip in the holy Ganges River. Just like time, other religions also have ways through which a person can make up for, or repent their sins.
There is another way for you to deal with your Karma, which is more modern-world and less spiritual. Sometimes, life just doesn’t go your way, no matter how much you try. If you are a Karma believer, looking to get rid of the bad deeds that you may have done in this or a previous life, then there is a chance you can do so. Mind you, this is not going to be easy, and you will have to change your entire life and the way you perceive the world. Still, want to turn your Karma around? Here’s how you do it.
#1. Replace Your Negative Thoughts With Positive Ones
It is easy to slip into negativity when you fail to find the point of something. Though thinking of the worst may provide you temporary comfort, it’s unhelpful and even harmful for your psychological health. We are not suggesting you sugarcoat reality, but merely to look at the brighter side of things and ignore all the negative things happening in your life. Acknowledge your negative thoughts as soon as they take you over and divert your mind towards something good and positive.

#2. Make Failure Your Stepping Stone Towards Success
You may think it is a cliché, but it is true in most instances. There is perhaps no successful person in the world who hasn’t made a mistake or faced failure at some point in their life. You think Bill Gates , the richest person in the world, never failed in his life at anything? Failures are sometimes essential for success as they highlight errors in thinking and indicate that we need to find another solution. So, embrace your failures and use them to improve yourself. So, when you think that you are failing because of your Karma, remember that nobody ever achieved greatness without perseverance.

#3. Learn To Be Patient
Frustration is common in life but many of us do not know how to handle it, and we end up doing something rash and regretful. There is a funny thing about patience that it is the hardest to practice when it is needed the most. There are several ways you can blow off steam without having to take it all out on the people you love. Simply talking to a loved one or a professional is a great option. Remember that Karma will come to bite you in the behind, so everything you do needs to be carefully thought out.
Here’s how you can vent out frustration without hurting your relationship.

#4. Take Your Karmic Experience As A Lesson
Pressure reveals the true selves of people, despite people arguing to have been out of their senses in stress. Learn from your behavior under pressure and become a better self. Whether you need help dealing with anger or unable to hold back frustration, your bad moments will reveal so much about your personality that you can identify and work upon. Bad experiences are also an opportunity to get stronger. They help you improve your approach, strengthen the ability to bounce back and provide insight into the matter.

#5. Start To Take Responsibility
Your ego may make it difficult for you to take responsibility in bad circumstances, but it helps in widening your perspective. When you begin to admit when you are wrong, you start to feel a shift in your energy. Other than that, you also begin wondering about how to do things differently when a similar situation arises the next time.

#6. Stop Resenting And Learn To Forgive
Nothing is as freeing for the mind and the soul as forgiving people who have done you wrong. To forgive people means to detach yourself from frustration, anger, and bitterness. Resentment is what bad Karma feeds on, attracting more people who give you the reason for being resentful. We often wonder why we fail to escape negative thought, never realizing that it is our own actions and thoughts that keep us trapped in the wheel.

#7. Heal Your Karma
The simplest way to deal with your Karma is by nourishing it with good deeds. Karma exists to keep a balance in the world, of the good and the bad. There is no better way to repent for your bad deeds than partaking in some good ones. Accept your bad Karma, work with the cards you have been dealt and do good deeds to counteract the bad Karma from long ago.

Perhaps this is because I am spiritual, but I do believe in the idea of Karma. I think all of us have to face the consequences of our actions in this life itself. I do not think there is reincarnation like the several Asian religions like Hinduism or Jainism suggest. If you do wrong to people, you are going to have to face what is coming. Maybe you will have a chronic disease like cancer or something, or maybe your son will get you in trouble. Karma can come back in a variety of ways.
I often find people relating Karma with coincidence. Like if something bad happened to someone who did wrong to people, they would say that it is only a coincidence and bad things happen to people all the time. But in my experience, I have not come across one person yet who did wrong and got away without any repercussions. At the same time, I have also observed many instances where people who were good all their life were rewarded for it.
I also think of Karma as something that inspires good in people. Sometimes people need a little push, a little encouragement or a little reward for doing good and that is how karma helps many people stay on the right path. At the same time, karma also uses fear and helps in keeping people from doing bad to others. The fright of having to face consequences is enough to steer people away from the bad. Though this is not the idea of the perfect world that we would like to live in, if this helps in keeping the balance, then why not.
Karma could be your push towards the right or an amusing concept to you, it entirely depends on how you perceive it. Cannot wait to see what others have to say on this.
