Is paying tips in restaurants a form of extortion?

We all go to restaurants at any point of the day. Be it for drinking a cup of coffee with friends or having a dinner with the family. It is an accepted fact now that some kind of tip has to be paid in the restaurants. This tradition has continued for too long and we all have become used to the same. The question of morality on the fact that is paying tips in restaurants a form of extortion does not concern us.

However, if we think deeply it is indeed a form of extortion since the waiter who serves you in the restaurant expects some kind of tip when you finish the dinner. In some cases, it has been seen that waiters express displeasure if no tip is left or if they find the amount to be of less value.

It is an accepted fact that the amount of tip is distributed equally among all the waiters in the evening hours when the restaurant closes down. It is also a matter of concern that the restaurant owner bothers little on educating their employees on not to accept such tips. Since this tradition has been going on for years; they also find themselves in a tough spot to ask their employees not to indulge in such an activity.

The truth, however, is that tip is a form of extortion and should be discontinued.
