Madhur Bhandarkar's Indu Sarkar Leaves Congress Fuming, Calls It "Fully Sponsored"

National award-winning filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar is known for his controversial movies and his upcoming film Indu Sarkar is another name added to this list. Based on the period of emergency in the mid-1970s, it revolves around the life of three characters, played by Bollywood actors Neil Nitin Mukesh, Supriya Vinod and Kirti Kulhari.

Though the makers of the movie have said that it is mostly a work of fiction, the resemblance of Neil and Supriya’s characters to Sanjay and Indira Gandhi is uncanny.

On Monday, Congress spokesperson Jyotiraditya Scindia condemned the movie, alleging "false depiction." He said in an interview, "This film is fully sponsored. The organization and the individual who is behind the film is known to us. We totally condemn the false depictions in the film."

Pahlaj Nihalani, the chairperson of Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) came to the relief of the filmmaker as he said, "Indu Sarkar won't have to get an NOC from anyone in the Congress or the Gandhi family."

The movie, also starring veteran actor Anupam Kher in a key role, is set to hit theaters on 28th July.
