Should we use sunscreen?

Getting exposed to sunlight in the morning is good for health. We will get vitamin D from sunlight. However, too much exposure to the sun during noon may cause skin cancer. We should avoid the sun in the middle of the day from about 11.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. The UVA and UVB rays of sun cause wrinkles, sun spots and will cause other skin damages. UVB rays are the cause of skin cancer. We can use sunscreens, wear protective clothes and a wide hat to protect against harmful rays of the sun.

Sunscreens are the best defense against harmful sun rays. Chemical sunscreens absorb the UV radiation. Mineral sunscreens act as a barrier between the sun and your skin. When the label reads SPF 15 that means it gives 15 times more protection. Oxybenzone and Avobenzone are the most toxic ingredients used in sunscreen. Titanium dioxide and Zinc Oxide are nonirritating and are proved as safe. Still, there is a controversy that sunscreens can cause vitamin D deficiency. You can take a vitamin D supplement to fulfill your requirements. However, prolonged exposure to the sun will not provide extra production of vitamin D.

Experts recommend that we should apply sunscreen half an hour before going out in the sun and reapply every two hours. Your family above the age of six months can use a sunscreen daily. Children under age of six months should not use sunscreen because their skin is sensitive. Shade and full clothing that covers the body parts are ways to protect them from sun rays. Studies have proved that you have to apply one shot full glass of sunscreen to get protection. But most people wear only a little amount of sunscreen which may not be adequate. Women should apply sunscreen under makeup. People think that they do not sunscreen when it is cloudy. But the fact is UV rays penetrates the cloud too.

There are many benefits of using a sunscreen. The ozone layer is depleting and giving out do you prefer using a sunscreen. Sunscreens are suitable for all skin types. Sunscreens save your skin from years of visible damage. You will not regret wearing a sunscreen when you see your friend's face who is not wearing sunscreen after ten years. If you had a skin cancer or precancer stage, you should use a sunscreen with a higher SPF. If you are worried about the chemicals present in a sunscreen you can opt for natural sunscreens.
