Children are like damp mud, anything they see and hear gets imbibed on to them. It is a fun phase in one's lifetime, but utmost care should be taken from the parents' side so as to nurture and guide them in the proper healthy way both physically as well as mentally.
When I was a little girl, thriller movies were considered scary and I was never allowed to watch them even when they were aired on television. Whereas, now, the trend has changed, and deadly ghost movies have fallen under the comedy genre and everybody, especially, the kids are just loving these kinds of movies.
Not only movies, even lots of television channels have started to prop up these kinds of thriller soaps featuring snakes, ghosts, etc, these days with their Television rating point (TRP) hitting the skies.
Is this a healthy change? How is this going to affect our next generation, will they become braver and gain courage to face anything or is this going to make them even more cowardly?
My friend’s teenage daughters forced her to take her to one such comedy movie in theatre and she said that that night they hugged her tightly and couldn’t sleep at all as they had become so scared watching the movie.
But there is another example of a kindergarten child who told me that she enjoyed the movie so much that she could not control laughing as it was so much fun. This girl has become more bold and is now not scared of anything even darkness, to which her mother gives credit to the movie.
These movies are like the two sides of a coin, there are advantages as well as disadvantages. So I feel that it is up to the parents to understand and decide whether their kids must watch these kinds of movies.
As little children would not know the impact that it would have on them, it is up to the parents to take the best choice of movies for their little ones.
