Conflict of opinions among people of different generations is found everywhere. Generation gap results in several types of problems not only in the workplace but also in family, club or any association.
People have different outlooks towards the life. Elderly people, who have spent a long life, are much more experienced than younger generation and they want their next generation to follow their footsteps. But present day's youths are very aggressive and it is not possible to force them into anything which they do not want to do.
Thoughts and beliefs of elderly people do not match with the younger generation. Their likes and dislikes are quite different than their juniors.
Conflict of opinions due to generation gap is clearly visible in workplaces. Conflict at the workplace can be stressful and counterproductive, and create an atmosphere which can discourage people to deliver their best for the success of the organization.
A person in a managerial position usually raises questions on the performance of younger employees. There are several issues among which dress code is the most serious issue; next is poor work ethic, followed by lack of respect for authority.
On the other hand, younger employees consider their managers adamant, who have resistance to change and lack of recognition and the tendency to micromanage.
Generation X, who born between 1965 and 1979, dislike too much dependency on technology. They still prefer to use traditional work style, while Generation Y wants a fast solution for every problem just by swiping the finger on the touch screen.
Due to conflict of the opinion, it takes lots of time to reach to any decision.
Having conflict in the workplace is dangerous for the growth of the organization and this fact need to be understood by all the employees. Therefore, all of them have left their ego. There is nothing wrong for a manager to learn something new from his junior. Similarly, a younger employee must respect his senior and try to take the lesson from the senior who are much experienced.
New ideas and concept should always be welcome but there should not be any compromise on ethics and laws.
