Getting bored at work is the worst and I say that from my personal experience. I am an intern at an accounting firm and there are days when just keeping the eyes open is a struggle I can never win. It is not only that my work is boring, but there are also no colleagues that I can interact with since everybody here is more than twice my age. Getting bored also gets me in trouble because it makes me feel sleepy and my boss sees my head wobbling in the air from right to left.
When I am bored of my work, what I do is I go for a walk in a nearby garden. There I can meet people my age with whom I have shared some interests. I meet a number of people my age there from nearby offices and many of them have become my good friends. This interaction with them lets me blow off my steam after punching in numbers at my keyboard for hours.
Also, there are times when there isn’t much work. Some days we have to stay at work till late and some days we sit idle for 7 out of 9 hours. Those days I sit with my seniors and try to learn from them as much as possible. I figure, we do not have much else to talk about, then why not do something that will be beneficial for me. Since those guys have so much experience, they are able to help me get an insight into the field and work better. Another thing I do in my free time is that I plan and prepare for the future.
Since we get work in waves, we get free time and then we have loads of work which is to be delivered on deadline. So, in my free time, I plan how I am going to work in future and plan my actions and strategies. Can’t wait to see what others have to say.
