Many people say they want to help others but back away citing different reasons. Whether it is the lack of resources keeping them from doing good deeds or plainly the scarcity of opportunities, they always have an excuse for not doing as much good as they would want to. Well, people who actually want to help others find ways to do so, and the actions of John Lunceford is a testament to that. This is his story.
It was just another day for John Lunceford, a school bus driver in Washington, till he picked up a student from the bus stop. Waiting for the bus in the freezing cold, the child’s exposed ears and hands had turned red and he was crying when he boarded the bus. The US Army veteran, who is a grandfather himself, could not see the child suffering and took off his own gloves and placed them on the kid, consoling him and telling him it was going to be okay.
Well, this was not all that he did. After dropping off the kids to school in his bus, he bought ten pairs of stocking hats and gloves, and headed to the administrative office right away, seeking the child he found crying in the morning. Finding the kid in the library, he handed him the hat and the gloves and told all children that if they were on his route, they could come to him and he would help them with the winter gear.

Kennewick School District, for which John Lunceford has been driving the bus for over three years, shared a picture of this hero on its Facebook page and praised him for his heart-warming actions.
The least we can do is take inspiration from his actions and do every little bit we can to come to the aid of people who need us. Now and then, we come across people who lack something. It could be a kid who does not have gloves or hat to tackle the freezing winters; it could be a homeless guy who only needs a few bucks from us so he can eat, and it could also be a friend who just needs a shoulder to cry on. You will be surprised how one simple act of kindness can make somebody else’s life so much easier or perhaps less difficult.
The bus driver did not have to help the child. But his conscience could not let the child suffer in the cold every day. So he gave gloves and hats to not just one child, but all kids on his route who did not have proper winter gear.
If this post ends up inspiring even just one, then posting it would be a success.
