Being a leader is a good feeling when we are sure that our team is doing well and it is moving forward. But in most of the scenarios, the leader is the one who has to take the maximum effort to make the targets met. The job pool of a leader includes different tasks such as making the team united, motivate them to move forward, plan the works, identifying errors and hit the target. Sometimes it is not an easy task to make all the things work. Hence the load put extreme pressure on the leader and the leader will become uncomfortable.
It is not the role of the leader which makes someone uncomfortable, but it is the amount of work to be completed in the given time which does that. No leader will face any issues if the deadlines and the goals are cleared easily. If the leader is not comfortable, then it is sure that the problem is either the difficulty in meeting the goals or the poor performance of the team. Even if the team is achieving the goals, the leader may not be happy if it was not done with a convincing performance. The leader will never be happy with the members performing badly.
There are different ways for a leader to manage the pressure and be comfortable always. The first thing to do is to make a plan that can work. It is very important to make sure that the plan is sensible. We must not expect the team to do a plan which is not possible really. The next thing to do is to divide the work to the right persons and make them motivate themselves. The leader must identify the features of each person and give them the responsibility which they can do.
Clear all their doubts in the beginning and avoid anything that limits the team members from communicating with the leader and each other. Including milestones in the plan and conducting meetings periodically during the whole work will make the leader and the teammates ensure that the works are going well. It will reduce the pressure. Managing the time well is another important thing to be comfortable with the team. In short, if the leader can plan the works and execute them well then he can be comfortable always.
A leader is not a role, but it is a responsibility. A leader must not panic or give up until the team reaches the goals. If the teammates can be motivated by the leader, then the leader can be happy and feel good about the position.
Leadership and administration are different things. Leadership is about pulling and administration is about pushing! Lol. No need to be tough to the teammates at all. Rather, that is a bad sign.
It is not necessary for a leader to be tough to the teammates. As rightly said, it is the pressure and workload that makes leader uncomfortable. Teammates should be helpful in completing the task and cooperate with leader and not leave the entire job on the leader.
