“I love a book which never ends in my head, even though- a thousand times, it has been read!”
-- Mansi Tejpal
Books are the biggest treasures of life. The journey a person embarks, once he starts reading, is beyond imagination because powerful authors will take you for a ride which is more exciting, thrilling and adventurous than a roller coaster, Para-gliding or bungee jumping. You will be able to meet famous characters, romantic heroes, cold hearted villains or dangerous creatures that only exist in this realm of fantasy world. Or certain books will move your heart so much that by the end of reading your eyes will redden out of the tears that flowed. Certain books convey messages for a better world or to be a better human being. Travelogues will take you to a journey around the world, to exotic places without the hassles of tickets or baggage!
So the kind of fun a book offers to you is endless. At least reading for about one hour daily will always do well for your brain and thoughts, for, reading any book will offer you a different perspective of life. After all, there is nothing new under the Sun, which is not explored by us, human beings. Giving a rational approach to life is the need of the hour. When humans are consumed by greed and rat race, we often forget humanity. At least allotting some time to read will freshen up our thoughts and we will perhaps try to indulge in social welfare activities.
Studies clearly tell us that giving your toddler a book is the greatest gift a parent could give a child as it not only builds a child’s imagination but also his/her intellectual capacity. And in this busy life of ours, it also provides some quality time with your little ones by indulging in small activities like reading or coloring which that book provides. So introduce your child to their friend for life – a book rather than letting your little one be addicted to televisions, mobiles, tablets or computers. These kinds of electrical gadgets will only restrict their imagination as they provide a visual treat for the kids.
From reading above, everyone must have realized that I am a voracious bookworm. Indeed, I am! And it is also a matter of pride for me. I had started reading at the small age like any normal girl does. But I soon got addicted to it which was also encouraged by my family. Since then, books had been my constant companion. And I also maintain my own personal library filled with my favorite authors. Fiction is my genre and I have attempted to read at least one book of many authors.
E-books are a great help as we do not have to maintain them. Storing the books in our tablets is enough. But frankly, the kind of thrill that the physical form gives is lacking in an e-book. I simply love the smell of the book, the crispness of the page and the feel of the book in my hand. Once I start reading a book, I will get lost in the world the book opens to me. And I will only set it down, once I have finished devouring the book, especially if it is a psychological thriller.
Some of my personal favorite authors are Khaled Hosseini, Taslima Nazrin, M.T. Vasudevan Nair, Perumal Murugan. Ashwin Sanghi, Harlen Coben, John Grisham, Jefferey Archer, Sidney Sheldon, Michael Crichton, Steig Larsson, J.K. Rowling etc. Their contribution to the book readers' community are of a stupendous nature, ranging from political problems to social stigmas; from psychological thrillers to scientific wonders; from old epics to modern day epics etc. There is no limit to imagination and these books underline the above mentioned statement.
The stories and characters remain alive and dwell in our minds, even after we finish reading them. We will feel a strong attachment to the hero like passion towards certain characters like Lisbeth Salander of Steig Larsson’s ‘Girl in the dragon tattoo’ series. Or we may cry with the fictional character Amir of Khaled Hosseini in ‘Kite Runner’ as we travel through the problems, troubles and helplessness he faces. There is no end to such emotional journeys. It is like small kids hopping on to one ride and then jumping off to some other exciting ride in a carnival fair. There seems no end to the fun and thrill the various rides offer.
So, personally, I feel that being a book worm provides a beautiful vista into that world of deep imagination and creativity.
"A room without books is like a body without a soul". Marcus Tullius Cicero.
