5 Times We Loved “The Turbanator” Harbhajan Singh Outside The Cricket Field

We love Harbhajan Singh everytime he graces our television screens, whether he was tormenting the opposing team’s entire batting line-up with his doosras or shaking a leg on a dance reality show. The first Indian to take a hat-trick in a Test match, the Turbunator is undoubtedly one of the best off-spinners who has got the chance to play for the Indian national cricket team.

As the cricketer turns 37 on 3rd July, let’s take a look at some of his best innings outside a cricket ground.

#1. The Dancer

In 2008, we were introduced to a different side of Bhajji when he participated in a dance reality show on Colors TV, Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena. Coupled with Mona Singh of the Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin fame, the off-spinner gave us several memorable moments. What’s more, he took the trophy home, beating his fellow Indian crickets like S Sreesanth, Irfan Pathan, and Dinesh Kartik.

#2. The Wrestler

In 2012, Harbhajan Singh took the role of a wrestler in Colors TV’s Ring Ka King and even participated in a match with the popular American professional wrestler, Jeff Jarrett. Yes, you heard it right, but there was a catch. Jeff was blindfolded, and Bhajji stood in the corner as an Indian wrestler slammed his opponent on the ground.

#3. The Judge

In 2016, Harbhajan teamed up with his off-field friend and Pakistani speedster, Shoaib Akhtar for a talent hunt show on Life OK channel. This time around, Bhajji filled the shoes of a judge, scoring comedy acts by different teams. Like every other time, he was loved here too, and he never missed a chance to crack one of his own. Sadly, the spinner had to leave when his first child was born, and his place had to be filled by Anu Malik.

#4. The Philanthropist

Harbhajan Singh closely witnessed the plight of people trapped by the flood in Uttarakhand as the cricketer was himself stranded in Joshimath for many days. Hence, he decided to donate Rs 10,00,000 a part of which went to Prime Minister’s Relief Fund and remaining amount to Punjab Government’s relief fund towards the help of the disaster victims. This is not the only incident where the cricketer did a selfless act and consistently takes part in charity events.

#5. The Cop

Many people do not know this about Harbhajan Singh, but he has also held the position of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Punjab Police, which was offered to him by the state government after his outstanding performance in a test series against Australia where he took 32 wickets in just three matches. The other incentives that Punjab government showered on the spinner are a cash reward of Rs 5 lack and a piece of land.

We love Harbhajan Singh no matter what role he plays. Let us wish the off spinner a very Happy Birthday and many more happy years ahead.
