Swatch Bharat- Clean India has been successful in these two years?

Swatch Bharat-clean India has started showing its footprints in the soils of India, yet we have a long way to go. Though in most of the towns in India the municipalities or urban development authorities have provided the people with dustbins for waste disposal, proper waste management is still a far-fetched cry. The central Government of India has promised development funds to clean cities and tag them as smart cities, neither the municipalities are bothered about implementing 'Swatch Bharat' program seriously nor is the Government both at the state and central level monitors if the program is implemented in the true sense.

The most vital point is creating the civic sense about cleanliness among the people of India. We Indians have the tendency to keep our houses clean and throw our dirt and waste at our neighbors' doors. This attitude needs to be changed. I myself have had a very bitter experience when trying to insist cleanliness in my colony. The area close to my lane is being used for waste disposal though we have been provided with a dustbin for doing so. Yes! it is a bit far from some of the houses; on the approach road of our colony. I once stopped one of the maids of a resident from disposing of waste close to our lane. They created a scene and a few days later littered my lane with stale food. I did inform the municipality authorities, but in vain. Indiscriminate littering of waste still continues in my colony and in most parts of my town-Rourkela. Only posh area are kept clean from where the municipality workers and staff get a sizeable amount of tips or bribe.

We still need to work hard to create a conscienceness about cleanliness among the Indians. Maybe the municipality and urban development authority have to impose a kind of fine for littering dirt in the town/city along with some awareness camps. The Swatch Bharat -clean India program needs serious and earnest monitoring. Let's realize that 'cleanliness is next to Godliness' as also a pivot of good health.
