Oldest plane flying around globe lands in Nagpur

History was created in Nagpur when a March 1940 made Dacota C-43 landed here. The place is circling the globe and landed in Maharashtra during the exercise. Noticeably, these planes have played a key role in wars which India had with Pakistan in 1947 and 1965.

This airplane is owned by Aeropassion which is a Swiss firm. The airplane flew in from Karachi, last night and this was its 11th halt. Dacota C-43 will tour 55 cities during this entire exercise. This aircraft was manufactured by now-defunct US-based Douglas Aircraft Company. It was extensively used by Allied forces during the Second World War. A special credit which goes to this aircraft is the fact that it was used to drop forces in Normandy coast during the Second World War.

The World Tour of this historic aircraft began from Geneva on 9th March. A crew of three pilots is flying the plane and all the three pilots flying it are with vast experience. Interestingly, one of the pilots also doubles up as the official photographer on the trip.

This airplane is also special for the reason that it is the first airplane which was considered to be commercially viable when it was first manufactured in the year 1935.
