A lot of people are addicted to alcohol, and they consider it as a matter of pride and happiness. During special events and occasions, people tend to throw a cocktail party to celebrate their moments of joy in like. But they should be aware of the fact that regular consumption of alcohol can have a devastating effect on both the body and mind. The impacts of alcohol abuse not only have consequences for the drinker but also around the people around him/her. Alcohol consumption leads to a change of the psychological behavior of the person, and he is prone to experience fatal injuries.

Drug abuse or addicted involves ingesting or administering toxic substance into the body. Regular ingestion of these harmful components can hamper the healthy functioning of the body processes, and the person can experience both short and long-term effects, which can be life-threatening. Some of the long-term effects of alcohol consumption include increased susceptibility to liver cirrhosis, liver cancer, and other fatal ailments. Alcoholism at higher level can interfere with the person's health and negatively degrade his social, family or occupational responsibilities

Short-term effects of alcohol consumption

Some of the negative short-term health effects of alcohol consumption are as follows:

Hangovers and dizziness:
• Excess alcohol consumption can make the person feel dizzy, and he may experience the symptoms of nausea and vomiting.

• Alcohol hampers the functioning of the central nervous system, and the person loses his sense of balance and orientation.

• Drinking alcohol makes the person feel more dehydrated, and as a result, the hangovers occur more often.

Loss of muscle control:
• Alcoholism often leads to loss of muscle control and the person experienced slurred speech.

• Impaired judgment and poor coordination are some of the other effects of muscle impairment, and the person is at a higher risk of meeting road accidents.

Pregnancy risks:
• Alcohol also causes numerous birth defects, the most serious being fetal alcohol syndrome.

• Pregnant mother addicted to alcohol have a higher chance of giving birth to a baby with having physical abnormalities, mental impairment, and problems with behavior.

• Gynecologists always restrict the pregnant mothers to avoid drinking alcohol during her delicate phase, as it can keep the unborn baby fit and healthy.

Medical interactions:
• Alcohol is seen to have an adverse reaction to most of the medications.

• For instance, antihistamines taken with alcohol can increase the risk of drowsiness and liver damage.

Long-term effects of alcohol consumption
As the harmful substances of alcohol degrade the functioning of the major body organs, one can also experience the serious health conditions and illnesses.

Liver inflammation:
• Alcoholic people are at a higher risk of experiencing cirrhosis of the liver, as the toxic chemicals destroy the liver cells.

• Some of the common symptoms of cirrhosis include abnormal yellowing of the skin, eyeballs and urine, fever, and abdominal pain.

Cancer:
• Heavy drinkers are at a higher risk of developing certain forms of cancer such as cancer of the mouth, throat, and esophagus and colon.
Cardiovascular ailments:

• Regular consumption of alcohol also increases the risk of developing high blood pressure and heart disease.

Additionally, regular drinkers are also at a risk of developing brain damage, nerve damage, bleeding in the esophagus, erectile dysfunction in men, insomnia, and depression.
