Human beings can control their responses to their environment and the behavior of people around them. There are times in life when it becomes important to make sure that you stop emotionally responding to people in your life who are immature, irresponsible and just too dramatic.

The way people around us are going to behave is absolutely their choice; there is not much we can do to alter that. At the same time, how we are going to let people treat us is all up to us, and we should not let them treat us the way we do not deserve to be treated. What we all need to realize is the idea that we all have the ability to decide what we are going to allow in our lives and what is absolutely a negative influence and needs to go. Sometimes, it becomes impossible for us to make decisions that can help us keep the negativity out of our lives. At the same time, it is important for us to make sure to not let trivial things and people emotionally impact us.

If you let people and circumstances emotionally impact you in a negative manner for a long period, you are going to be emotionally exhausted, and that is not a really good place to be in life. Having a healthy emotional state of being is extremely essential and it is the best thing for a happy and joyful existence of an individual. The best way to have this kind of healthy mental and emotional state of being is by being emotionally numb to all the people and circumstances that do not deserve any of your emotional attention. If you are finding it impossible for you to take the emotional drama that the people in your life are causing, you need to become emotionally numb for some time. Here are certain things you can do in order to be emotionally numb.

#1. Know What You Really Want To Experience

We all have vague ideas about the kind of life we wish to have and yet we cannot clearly define in detail what it is that we really wish to experience. This is what we need to get clear on. It is important to understand that most of the times we get what we have wished for and yet we are not really truly happy with it. This is because we got things related to our vague wishes and are not aware of what is it that we really wish to experience.

When you know what you really want to be in a better state emotionally, making decisions that will help you to be emotionally healthy becomes easy. This is when you can clearly decide whether you need to be emotionally numb or emotionally active. Drawing a boundary by being emotionally numb becomes easy for you now. So in order to be emotionally numb, you need to be able to know what you want to experience emotionally.

#2. Do Not Live In Denial

Many people just cannot be responsible enough to deal with their problems in life, especially the ones whoa re extremely emotional. The best temporary refuge is ignoring things and living in denial until things get worse. What you need to understand is that you cannot wait for things to work out on their own. If you need to get rid of the emotional drama in your life, you will need to take charge and be emotionally numb.

Being emotionally numb is being able to take charge of your emotional reaction to people and situations in life. When you are able to accept all the things that are not contributing positively to your emotional health and clearly identify them, you will be able to become emotionally numb to most of those situations that that do not need your emotional attention.

#3. Exclude The People Who Do Not Positively Add To Your Life

This can prove to be really difficult because you emotionally connected to people. You are used to having them as a part of your life, and the void that will be created by cutting them off your life can be really hard to deal with. But, you need to know the fact that it is better to be all on your own than to deal with constant emotional stress and drama that is absolutely unnecessary because this is going to have a really negative impact on your emotional health.

 Distance yourself from the people who emotionally exhaust you and give yourself enough space that can make you feel relieved. This is one of the most important ways in which you can be emotionally numb and draw the necessary boundaries.

#4. You Have To Pay The Price

The reason you wish to be emotionally numb with certain people is that you know it is going to be beneficial for your mental health. As essential it is for us to be able to practice this, it sure comes with a set of things you will have to do away with. You have to sacrifice certain things in order to get to that place where you can become emotionally numb towards the people and situations that are causing a negative emotional impact on your life.

You will have to pay the price of letting go of people who were at a point in time really close to you. You might have to stay all alone at times.  It is a harsh reality you will have to deal with. Initially, it might cause a lot of discomforts. You may experience a lot of changes that may not feel great in the very beginning. It is not simple to stop doing all the things that were a part of your regular life just because you wish to have a better emotional health. But, it is wise enough to get through the initial discomfort in order to have mental peace for a greater period of time.

#5. Take Control Of Your Life

Living life in the autopilot mode will mean people making you do things that you do not wish to do. People having an impact on you emotionally and you not being able to take charge of your emotional well-being will follow them blindly. You should be aware of the fact that you do not need to just flow with all that comes into your life. You need to decide how you are going to respond in a situation and how you are going to live your life. Do not give in to the decisions that your friends take on your behalf, do not do all the things that you hate doing just because it is going to help you be with some specific people. You will be able to find them all, who will let you be who you are and have no problem in accepting that. Getting emotionally numb towards someone becomes easier if you have control over your life. In such cases, you will be able to detect the red flags and take necessary actions, as and when required.
