Before you take any decision regarding traveling on air, the first thing to do is to take the permission from your doctor. A proper checkup will determine how fit you are for travel during pregnancy. Please keep in mind the fact that each individual has a very different pregnancy case. Not everybody will react to the changes pregnancy causes in the body, in a similar way. Some people have a difficult pregnancy. Others may have a straightforward one. Thus what precautions you need to take and how to go ahead with traveling by air during pregnancy, will depend on the instructions your doctor gives.

There a few things you need to take care of while traveling by air during your pregnancy:

#1. Make sure you inquire with the airlines you choose to travel in, regarding their policies for pregnant women. Different airlines have different criteria you need to meet in order to be eligible to travel by air during pregnancy. For example, you might need to have a proper medical certificate from your physician, allowing you to travel during your pregnancy.

#2. It is recommended that you choose the aisle seat so that you can stretch your legs and back. It might be essential for you to get up in case of any emergency and also if you need to use the restroom, choosing the aisle seat will make it easy and convenient for you to do all these activities. In case you are not able to get an aisle seat, you also request the airline's authority to allocate you one, as there are special considerations made for pregnant women.

#3. It very important for you to be careful and seek for help, in case you need to walk the aisle and go to the washrooms. Both the aisle and the washrooms are very narrow and may become difficult for you to navigate your way through them.

#4. Make sure you fasten your seat belt under the belly, which is the waist area. This will ensure there is no immediate pressure on the belly. It is important to make sure you have the belt fastened around the waist at all times; this is for your safety.

#5. In case you are prone to feeling nauseous and have any other issues while flying, make sure you have the required medication given by your doctor. This will help you gain relief in case you face any trouble.
