If media reports are to be believed, Russian health ministry has come up with plans that will let to ban the sale of cigarette to anyone who is born after the year 2015. With this move, Russia under the leadership of Vladimir Putin would be the first country to phase out tobacco products.
This ban will effectively come into force in the year 2033. This would be the year when children born in the year 2015 will turn into 18 year old adults. However, this is only a tentative plan and the Russian Government will work for approval of the same, only after it consults other Government ministries.

The tentative plan of Health Ministry in Russia has been shared with other key ministries including those of Finance and Economic Development. If and when implemented, this move will bring a drastic change in way smoking and its allied activities are viewed in Russia.
Russia like other countries has been battling the increasing incidence of smoking and its young generation has slowly started to suffer from various ailments. This move is likely to bring a drastic drop in sale of tobacco products in future and will lead to development of a healthy society. A welcome step indeed which should be emulated by others too.
