What does BCC mean?

BCC (blind carbon copy) is an option available in your address bar while you are planning to send an email.

Here’s how you can use BCC to your advantage.

What Does BCC Mean?

A BCC or a blind carbon copy is a copy of an email message sent to a recipient whose email address does not appear (as a beneficiary) in the message. BCC recipients differ from To and CC recipients because they are hidden, and their email addresses are not visible. Every recipient of the message can view all the To and CC recipients, but only the sender is aware of the BCC recipients.

BCC is useful when:

#1. You want someone else to receive an email, but you do not intend on letting the primary recipients of the email know about the other recipients. For example, if you have issues with a fellow employee, you might plan on sending them an email about it and BCC the email to the human resources department. This way the HR will receive a copy for their personal records, without letting your fellow employee know about it.

#2. You plan on sending a copy of an email to a multiple number of people at the same time. For example, if you have a mailing list consisting of a large number of recipients, you can include them in the BCC field.

All About BCC, Replies, and Email Threads

The BCC doesn’t function like CC in terms of email threads. For example, if you send an email to george@example.com and BCC tom@example.com, then Jake will receive the original email that you have sent. However, if George replies to the email, Tom will not receive a copy of George’s reply. You can continue to BCC Tom on future emails or forward him a copy of the replies. People are more likely to receive all the replies in an email thread when you CC them. You’ll have to keep them in the loop if you put them in BCC.

What Does BCC Mean In Gmail?

If you include more than one BCC recipient, chances are almost negligible that they get to know each other.

BCC is beneficial for people who are looking for a job, or for HR’s who are looking for candidates to hire. In cases like these same emails have to be sent to multiple addresses and therefore using BCC is an astute decision.
