Should children be punished in public?

Childhood is a vulnerable phase of life which needs to be handled with utmost care and compassion. Punishment is a word feared by all children be it at home or in school and is often used as a tool to correct or change inappropriate behavior in the child. This may take various forms such as making the child stand outside the classroom during school hours or asking him to write down a correction several times in a paper,  not allowing him to watch his favorite program on TV while at home and so on.

The degree of punishment may extend to extreme measures such as depriving the child of a meal, asking him to stand out in the hot sun, forcing upon him certain household chores as a part of the punishment and even more.  Punishing children in public can be said to be one of the worst of its kind as it could adversely affect their self-esteem and confidence level.

Children are very emotional beings and it is unfair or wrong to challenge their emotions in this manner. Childhood should be a happy-go-lucky phase for all kids without any worries. A better approach would be to adopt a balanced perspective towards the growth and development of the child, observing his behavior and rectifying him as well as counseling him on a personal level rather than punishing him in public. Just like adults, children should be given space for themselves to learn how to handle things independently,

Just like adults, children should be given space for themselves to learn how to handle things independently, however, while monitoring their activities simultaneously and rectifying them as and when needed before it is too late.  Extreme forms of punishment and punishment, particularly in public, should be avoided as it may only bring the worst out of the child and not any positive outcome or improvement in the child as expected.

For example, such a child may grow up to be more rebellious or violent in nature. Children deserve a more logical approach when it comes to behavioral rectification.  A pat on your child's back is a good idea for any improvement that he shows!

Yes

Children have a very delicate heart. Punishing a child is the elders' choice, but punishing the child publicly is extremely wrong.
