Home remedies for sensitive teeth.

Our teeth are covered by a layer called enamel. Enamel protects the dentin underneath. Enamel is the strongest substance in our body. It covers the crowns of healthy teeth. Over time, our tooth enamel can wear down and get thinner. This is the reason for tooth sensitivity. Many people are afflicted with sensitive teeth. It can be very unpleasant.

Here are some home remedies for sensitive teeth -

  1. Reduce pressure while brushing.
  2. Brush with a toothpaste designed for sensitivity. You can also use an electric power toothbrush.
  3. Try using a Fluoride rinse.
  4. Chewing hard candy may cause enamel abrasion.
  5. Use night guard to prevent and protect from teeth grinding.
  6. Brush at least twice a day. Floss daily.
  7. Use a soft toothbrush. Use a brush with soft bristles.
  8. Say no to tobacco.
  9. Avoid drinking acidic drinks like orange juice and acidic foods. This may cause dental erosion.
  10. Avoid foods and drinks which are extreme hot or cold. Hot foods cause the enamel to expand. Cold foods cause the contraction of the enamel. This may cause fractures in your teeth.
  11. Use a straw to drink cold drinks to prevent pain if you have sensitivity in your teeth.
  12. You can take an Ibuprofen pill to get rid of the pain and insensitivity.
  13. If there is too much pain, you can try brushing with your fingers or a cotton swab.
  14. You may also consider dental therapy.

Very sensitive teeth are agonizing and also affect our daily life. I favor using desensitizing toothpaste for teeth sensitivity. These are acquirable in the chemist shops or superstores. Desensitizing toothpaste contains chemicals that piece the hot or cold sensations from getting the nerves in the teeth.

Sensitive teeth are a surefire sign that something happens to be amiss in your oral cavity. If you have problems with tooth sensitivity, schedule a consultation with a dentist.
