Stress is our body’s basic physical response. The ill –effects of stress and anxiety are relatively new to humans. It is one among the many outcomes of globalization and modernization. For inhabitants of close-knit, self-sustained, farming communities stress and worry are uncommon.

The mind is the most delicate part of the human body. When anxiety and stress are not nipped at the budding phase, it can lead to drastic consequences. If depression sets in, the recovery process can be a tedious one. Hence it is crucial to keep stress at bay.

For people working round the clock, stress is inevitable. There are deadlines to meet, bills to be paid, snarling traffic to encounter and family to tend to. Listed below are some easy strategies to beat stress, instantly.

1. Take Deep Breaths as often as you can

It is an age- old adage but the healing powers of deep breathing are often underestimated. For centuries, yoga practitioners have believed in the power of Pranayama (deep breathing exercises) as a cure for physical and mental ailments.

Deep breathing supplies adequate oxygen to the lowest part your lungs and other organs. This lowers the rate of your heartbeat, stabilizes your blood pressure and eventually eases anxiety and tension.

Take deep breaths when you encounter stressful situations or when you feel anxious. Sit in an upright position, inhale through one nostril and exhale through the other and repeat it vice-versa.

2. Engage in more human interaction

Like other living beings, humans originally survived in groups. Community living gradually disappeared with change. In the last few decades, nuclear families have been on the rise. This has led to social isolation, which has negative effects on our mind and body.

There is nothing that soothes the mind than time spent with loved ones. Conversations and laughter with loved ones release endorphins, the hormone that combats stress.
