Angelina Jolie is amongst the most recognized and highly appreciated faces of Hollywood. She has acclaimed several recognitions for her work including Academy Award, Screen Actors Guild Awards, and the Golden Globes.

Everyone knows that she is much more than just being an actor. She is a filmmaker, a philanthropist, and a humanitarian. The entire world is obsessed with her skills and Brangelina (Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie relationship) as well.

But what precisely makes her an exceptional character is perhaps little-known and despite all the spotlight, there’s a lot you might not know about her. So, on her birthday today (4th June), we tell you some interesting facts about the Superwoman Angelina Jolie.

Dream Job - "Funeral" Director

Being upset about how poorly her grandfather's funeral ceremony was held, Jolie admitted that she had contemplated on becoming a Funeral Director. She thought she could do it better and was familiar with what a family exactly goes through and needs to do when a person departs.

She said,"How somebody passes and how a family deals with this passing and what death is should be addressed in a different way. If this whole acting thing didn’t work out that was going to be my path."

Angelina and Teenage Depression

Angelina faced suicidal tendencies during her teenage years in spite of not having a tough childhood. That was a phase of depression and allegedly Angelina said, "For some reason, the ritual of having cut myself and feeling the pain, maybe feeling alive, feeling some kind of release, it was somehow therapeutic to me.”

Her Breakthrough Roles & Directorial Projects

By the 1990s Angelina Jolie was entering her star period. She gave a marvelous performance in the HBO biopic Gia (1998) based on the unfortunate life of model Gia Marie Carangi. This film brought her the best actress Golden Globe Award.

Academy Award for the dramatic role of best-supporting-actress was given to Jolie for Girl, Interrupted (1999).

Disney's Maleficent is another masterpiece where she starred and executive produced the film.

Land of Blood and Honey, Unbroken and By the Sea are amongst the films she directed.

She also took hold of various interesting roles like that of the adventurer in Lara Croft films (2001 & 2003), a deferred and troubled socialite in The Good Shepherd (2006), FBI profiler in "Taking Lives" (2004), an assassin in "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" (2005, a monstrous mother in Beowulf (2007), a squadron commander in Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (2004), and CIA agent in the action-packed Salt (2010), Jolie embraces a list of roles that helped grow immensely.

No Manager

Reportedly, Angelina Jolie makes it to her meetings or other events without a manager. Film Producer Graham King once said referring to their meeting over the movie In The Land of Blood and Honey, “She turned up in my office with the location, photos, storyboards, casting information."

Jolie also sounded convincing when she said: "I’d love for you to produce this movie." She herself involves into everything and is capable of managing things without a manager.

Humanitarian Angel-ina

She's one of the most influential Hollywood stars of her generation and is very actively involved in conservation work, women’s rights and education right. She donates almost around one-third of her earning into charity. Three of her kids, Maddox, Zahara and Pax have also been internationally adopted from Cambodia, Ethiopia, and Vietnam, respectively.

She has always made it to the headlines for addressing global issues. Jolie was conferred with the Goodwill Ambassador Award for obtaining aid for the refugees in Cambodia, Darfur & Jordan. Angelina also received the Global Humanitarian Action Award for her activism on behalf of refugee rights.

Health

At one side Angelina welcomed Shiloh her biological daughter and on the other side came great sadness. She underwent a personal loss when her mother passed away because of ovarian cancer at the age of 56. Even her grandmother died due to cancer. And Angelina herself had an estimated 87 percent risk of breast cancer & around 50 percent risk of ovarian cancer. She announced of the same in a New York Times op-ed article headlined "My Medical Choice."

Jolie mentioned about how she underwent a double mastectomy in the effort of preventing breast cancer. She took the decision for not carrying further BRCA1 genes which increased the risk. She believes in choosing what's right personally and in educating oneself about the available options.

Angelina and Brad Pitt

Not considering extramarital relationships as the chosen ones, Angelina still committed towards a sensational affair with Brad Pitt (then married to Jennifer Aniston) during the shooting of Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Brangelina made it to marrying each other in the year 2014. They have three biological and three adopted kids. But it came as a massive shock for the showbiz when the two decided to split almost after 12 years of togetherness.

  1. The photos of her daughter and twin kids were sold at a whopping $4 and $14 million for avoiding paparazzi, according to Vogue. Though all the money went into her charity foundation, Jolie-Pitt Foundation.
  2. She miserably failed while trying for modeling and was also asked to lose weight while she already was a thin 14-year-old kid.
  3. Before making it to the Hollywood, she got her hands on appearing in some music videos including “Anybody Seen My Baby” by The Rolling Stones as a stripper and “Rock And Roll Dreams Come Through” by Meat Loaf etc.
  4. Angelina has citizenship of three countries including the US (where she was born), Cambodia (because of the conservation work she was doing there) and European citizenship (as she portrayed the actualities of the Bosnian war in one of her films).
