What does CC mean?

Do you know what ‘CC’ means? What does CC stand for in an e-mail? What does CC mean in text? What do all e-mail boxes mean?  If you don’t know, no worries! We will resolve this problem for you.

CC means ‘Carbon Copy.' This term was quite evident when the concept of the e-mail was introduced, but now it has become an old thing to remember for people in present times. Will you feel curious now when the word CC pops up on your e-mail? I’m sure you will without a doubt!

Let us begin to understand what it means and how it is used.

Carbon Copy (CC) is an option to send a copy of the e-mail to somebody else simultaneously. You must have observed that when we write on a carbon paper, the impressions of our writing get printed onto the second paper lying under it. On the same lines, CC is used. Many people like to comprehend CC as ‘Courtesy Copy’ which describes in a better way what CC refers to.

Whenever you CC people on email you are about to send, you should know that the list can be seen by other receivers as well. Example, if you CC james.hunter111@example.com and tom@example.com on e-mail, James and Tom both will get to know that the other received the e-mail.

Do You Know The Difference Between To And CC?

Both the fields work alike.  Regardless of whether you add five email addresses in the 'To' field or add one e-mail address in the 'To' field and three in the 'CC' field, all five people will be recipients of the same email. Also, that’s not enough! They will also be able to view the e-mail addresses of all the recipients added in the 'To' and 'CC' fields respectively!

If you wish to follow the e-mail etiquette, you must know that the 'TO' field is mostly for the pivotal (main) recipients of the email. CC field is mostly used for sending a copy to others who are the interested parties for their information. Though, this isn’t a hard and fast rule as such. Also, how to use 'To' and 'CC' also varies from person to person.

Do you know when CC is actually useful?

#1.  You desire someone else to receive the copy of this e-mail, but intentionally they aren’t one of your primary targets.

#2.  Another reason could be that you want the receivers to be informed about the fact that there are others too who have been sent the message item.

However, you must also know that BCC field doesn’t function similar to the CC field when it comes to e-mails. Example, if you desire to send an e-mail to malla@example.com and BCC Apurva@example.com, Apurva will get the original message item you send. But whatever Apurva replies, Malla won’t get notified that means she won’t receive the copy. Malla’s email won’t ever get to know that Apurva ever got the mail to reply further. That is the true magic of BCC!

Simply put, CC is short for carbon copy. So, if you are notifying someone via email, you can always send a copy of it to someone else of concern.
