WCW is an acronym which stands for "Women Crush Wednesday." It's a popular hashtag that took its first breath on Twitter as a means to compliment or admire attractive and worthy women by tagging them in posts.

 It didn’t take much time to spread on Instagram, Facebook, and Tumblr. Just like ‘hmu’, “WCW” is yet another interesting slang term.

The meaning of #WCW can vary depending on context. For eg: it was earlier used as an acronym for "World Championship Wrestling," then "Wonderful Crush Wednesday," and now "Woman Crush Wednesday," A single version has multiple treatments.

Beyoncé made it clear that women rule the world, thanks to #WCW; they rule the internet especially on Wednesdays. The popular hashtag “WCW” which stands for Woman Crush Wednesday is used to salute the women who are trying to bring a change in the world by challenging the stereotypical norms.

 It can be labeled as an inclusive hashtag because it is used to celebrate popular figures, celebrities, activists, life coaches, vloggers, and other such people.

Many people use the tag #WCW as an acronym on Twitter because it is short and do not exceed the 140 characters per post limit. However, it is used as #WomenCrushWednesday on Facebook and Tumblr where length is not a matter of concern.

#3. What Does WCW Abbreviation Mean?

 “WCW” had an entirely different meaning a few years back. It was used as an abbreviation for World Championship Wrestling which back then was one of the leading companies in sports entertainment.

The term has since been co-opted by the women of the world and those who crush on them.

Just like Man Crush Monday, or MCM, WomenCrushWednesday or WCW are like a quick vacation on social media. Every week Twitter and Instagram users share pictures with #WCW along with the reasons of why they admire the work and accomplishments of that particular woman.

WCW has become a cultural "reward" or an unofficial honor that anyone can bestow on anyone. You just need to use their name in a #WCW post including verbs like "goes out to," "deserves," or "has won my #WCW."

Few common examples of WCW :

#2. Women use it too. Girls usually post pictures of their close friends to show their admiration and respect for them.

#3. Other people use it to post photos of celebrities, models and other famous women they find attractive. Their #WCW emphasizes particularly on the woman’s beauty and attractiveness.

It's fun to know that the internet has been flooded with so many cool slang these days. As if we were already done with mancrushmondays, that this new slang #womencrushwednesdays popped up on our twitter handles.These slang are super cool and fun to use. I have been using them a lot lately, and social media has just become much more fun with them.
