What does YOLO mean?

‘What does Yolo mean?’ Are you curious to know how it is significant in our lives? Let’s find out! Over and again, a slice of slang pops up demarcating a line between the young and the old.  In the year 2012, another slang called ‘YOLO’ showed up to disrupt the minds of the young people yet again. If you’re above 25 years of age, YOLO might not mean anything to you but people under 25 will rejoice its meaning.

So, YOLO stands for ‘YOU Only Live Once.'  It shot to fame because of the rapper Drake who came up with the song “The Motto” has the hook, ‘You only live once, and that’s the motto...YOLO’. The raging word had spread everywhere at an incomprehensible speed after the release of the video. Also, thanks to the high school and college students for its wide spread through word of mouth.

It has become a raging hashtag on popular social media websites such as Facebook and Twitter. Add the pound sign in front of YOLO and it became a searchable word on social media websites.  The term is used to do something crazy or shows courage or gallant behavior of a person.

Example:
Claudia: Caroline and I have decided to go for bungee jumping this weekend!
Sara: Have you gone mad?
Claudia: YOLO!
Sara:  Amazing! I wish I held the same courage to try such a thing!

Also, If you know when to use jargons like YOLO then you really do know your audience well! It is really pivotal to know your people before using this word. If you have just started a friendship with somebody, then it advisable not to use abbreviations in order to prevent a perplexed state between the two of you. If you know the person well, then go ahead and use the jargons the way you want.
