What is the Difference between 'Love You' and 'I Love you'?

Have you ever tried to figure out what is the difference between ‘love you’ and ‘I love you’ is? Why is it so that we find people around us using different versions of this phrase which essentially means the same? Sometimes it becomes difficult to gauge the intensity with which this phrase is used.

The slight difference which separates the above two phrases on the emotional scale is mentioned below.

I Love You

This is said to people who are closely related to us and when the bond between the two individuals is strong and deep. It is used to reaffirm the fact that you love them as much as they love you. It is not used casually, and in flow during any regular conversation. ‘I love you’ is more emotionally hard hitting, revealing emotions harbored by individuals for a longer period. It is often used when one is hoping to start or continue a more meaningful and long lasting relationship.

Love You

This is used more casual, for regular conversations. Mostly, a very informal way of expressing your liking, attachment or even appreciation for a particular person or a group of people. It is used for relationships that are not long term or serious. ‘Love you’ is not as emotionally powerful as ‘I love you.'

The Difference Between ‘Love you’ And ‘I love you.’

#1. ‘I love you’ definitely falls to a higher degree on the emotional scale. 'Love you' is much lower on the emotional scale. This basically means the phrase ‘I love you’ is more emotionally hard hitting than the phrase ‘love you.'

#2. ‘Love you’ denotes less emotional attachment to a person, for example in a relationship between two friends who are fond of each other.

 I love you throw’s light on the fact that the emotional attachment is deep and strong. For example, a parent and child relationship.

#3 .’I love you’ mostly denotes a long term relationship. ‘Love you’ can be used for both long term and short term or casual relationships.

#4. 'I love you' is reserved for formal occasions like a proposal for your significant other, for you siblings on their birthdays or other similar events.

‘Love you’ is used casually for you regular buddies and classmates, people who are close to your heart. Can be used every day and does not need a special occasion.

 It is important to keep in mind that both these phrases convey the same thing at the end of the day. They are both ways of expressing love for the lovely people who make your life worth living. No matter who says it to us and on what occasion, it clearly means these people are conveying their love to us. Let us not get too much into the complexities of the meaning of what these phrases convey. Better focus on the love and joy the people saying these words bring into our lives.
