What is Love?

What is love? Is it an urge, emotion or a reaction of the chemicals in the brain? Or is it something entirely different?

For centuries we have struggled to find the answer to this question and are still in the pursuit. Countless plays, poems, and movies have tried to explain the topic and went in vain. But what we know is that powerful enough to make us create new life or destroy it.

Ancient Greeks referred to love as the “madness of the gods,” while modern psychologists explain it as a strong desire for an emotional union with someone. Whatever it may be, what we do know is that love is a force of nature, and no matter how much we wish and try, we can never command or dictate the feeling.

Once it has taken over the control of our senses, all we can do is surrender to it. Our hold over it is just as much as we have on the moon and the stars. Love is also involuntary and drives people like thirst.

Whether you talk about the passionate love, romantic love, obsessive love or mere infatuation, every culture on earth has been affected by it. But how do you tell if you are in love? How do you know if it’s just a mere infatuation or you have fallen deeply in love

When you fall in love, everything about that person becomes extraordinary. The songs they like become your favorite and you fall in love not only with that someone but their everything. The romantic love takes away our ability to notice the negative things about the person and all you see about them pushes you deeper into love.

Science has its take on the feeling. Scientists agree that it is something that cannot be curated or has an on and off switch. Love has its origin in our subconscious mind. So, we might consider falling in love to be a momentary event, but our brain works hard to analyze and produce the feeling.

Some also define it as a basic drive that was developed millions of years ago for us to focus our attention on just one partner and start mating for the survival of the species.

But whatever love may be, whether our subconscious mind telling us to find a partner to mate with or an uncontrollable feeling to date or be in a relationship with someone, it takes control of us unlike anything else in the world.

Sometimes it may even be interlinked with hate. However, what cannot be ascertained is the fall of the lightning - when will it hit you and sweep you off our feet. Although one thing is there for sure, then you do get involved romantically, the desire to be single vanishes in split seconds.

Love is one such topic that can spark endless discussions and debates. They can go on for days and yet no one would be able to truly understand what love is. It is not a philosophy or a scientific theory, it may be a chemical feeling yet it is not just completely chemical. To me it is the most pure and beautiful feeling in the world. From the time we are born, we are showered with love and that becomes the very essence of our existence. All interpersonal bonds are forged on this great emotion and it is love that makes us feel wanted and appreciated. The purest form of love is that between a mother and a child.

In the present times, the very idea of love has become so diluted that people have started to resent the very term. Often many other feelings such as lust and infatuation are confused for love and there are those who end up building their life on such pathetic emotions.

Real love is unconditional and at times even unattached, when you truly love someone, you want them to grow and become the best version of themselves. It is not a parasitic feeling that makes you feel owned or gives anyone the authority to decide your course of life.

Love is rather the most uplifting feeling in the world and if you feel down in the dumps after falling in love then it's time you analyse your relationship as you could have deluded yourself to feel this way for a toxic person.

Often enough falling in love with a wrong person can seriously wreck your life and it is important that you don’t fall for illusions but rather invest in the real thing. After all love is a feeling that everyone must experience in their life.

Love is an amazing feeling. To fall in love is like finding sun in the night sky. It’s not just a

feeling, but a mere sensation in the air. It is a feeling that not just happens among couples

but it flourishes in every relationship. One must truly strive to find love in a relationship and

make life better. It’s not easy to have an essence of love in every relationship, but trying

harder has never failed anyone. I really believe in love so much than ever.
